not it!

i was dissapointed to feel just as tired as usual when i got off work this evening.  i was really hoping that eating well and drinking lots of water all day would be the answer.  it wasn't.  i was really looking forward to a trail run, but i just didn't have the energy.  so when i got home and my sister suggested the pool, i thought why not?

i laid around for while, reading a magazine, dozing a little bit here and there.  then mere decided she wanted to play pool games.  with the 8-12 year olds in the pool.  she dove in and once again i thought, why not?  so i did, too.  we played colors and marco polo until i couldn't take it anymore and had to come home for dinner.  it was seriously like being a kid again, awww, mom do i hafta?  except i'm the mom.  weird.  i didn't go running but i played in the pool for a good hour.  not bad.

does anyone remember inky pinky ponky?  bubble gum bubble gum in a dish?  engine engine number 9?

i had so much fun.

anyway, i did really well eating today and i never felt hungry.  i still craved junk food and unfortunately fell prey to a few of my sisters french fries sitting on the counter.  but i only had a few.

so, more about the rainbow diet i have come up with. it's simple really.  eat all the colors of the rainbow, with only a few browns and whites thrown in.  shopping by color was really fun.  i will post later this week on how much i spent for a work weeks worth of groceries.  even if you are on a budget, you can afford fresh fruit and veggies.  you'll notice meat is absent.  i don't really like it all that much and i always feel bloated after i eat it so i'm saving it for special occasions.

breakfast:  1 c. kashi heart to heart cereal (really good!), 1/2 c. blueberries, 1 c. ff milk = a brown, a blue and a white.

i decided i'm not going to drink so much coffee.  rather than have a few cups at home while getting ready and a mug on the way to work, i stopped after one cup and got an early start on water drinking.

lunch:  whole wheat pita, 2 Tbl. hummus, lettuce, red pepper, carrots, cucumbers, a nectarine, water = a brown (grain) and a brown (protein), two greens, a red, two oranges.  not bad!  and mighty tasty, too.

i wasn't really hungry later in the afternoon, but i was craving food.  *sigh*  luckily, i came prepared with a snack.  6 strawberries, some plain, non-fat yogurt and some sliced almonds.  it was almost like a sundae.  but surprisingly, better.  so that is a red, a brown and a white.  good protein and good fat in there.  not to mention the antioxidants.

and last but not least, dinner, which i just finished up as i was typing this lovely entry:  lots of brocolli and a sweet potato.  a green and an orange.  if you haven't baked yourself a sweet potato (microwave works just fine) you should try it.  they are really good for you (eat the skin!) and don't take much butter and are sweet as sugar.

i'm going to have chocolate milk for dessert.  ff milk and sugar free hershey's chocolate syrup!

i like taking photos of my food.  it helps me "see" what i'm eating and feel accountable.  i should go take a picture of the french fries sitting on the counter.  but i think i get a pardon today.

well, i'm sitting here in my wet suit and my dog needs a walk so i'm going to head out for 30 minutes or so with her.  oh!  and i walked with her for 30 minutes this morning, so i did a good job overall today.

hope you all had a good day, too.

be well!

xoxo.

retrograde = improvements

retrograde is never a time to make big changes. i always feel restless and impatient during these times, and with at least four planets in retrograde right now, i'm feeling the need to make improvements in many areas of my life.

i've owned my own domain and a simple web hosting package for years now and had never gotten around to actually doing anything with it. a real weblog was the aspiration. i finally have taken the time to read up on movable type and css. and this is the result. my first real blog. adios, myspace. mydogwontbite has gone live.

my ultimate goal will be to actually install and use my new employee welcome gift - creative suite 3 design premium. i'd like to create my own styles and templates. all those free classes are sure going to come in handy. in the meantime, i want to become a regular poster. i have a lot going on in my head and i'd like the chance to put it out there.

my top five blog topics...for starters...because i have to tag some categories so why not brainstorm on them in my first blog?

1. diet - i am starting a new diet tomorrow. i hate the word diet when used in that context. it's really just a way of eating. it's based on the rainbow. eat as many colors as i can in a day is the basic thought behind it. more about this later.

2. exercise - my fourth marathon and my third time at the san francisco marathon is coming up in a little over a month. i'll be doing some heavy posting on this as i am in major need of some inspiration to get my ass in gear before the big day. road biking, yoga, dance will hopefully make an appearance as well.

3. my dog - most people think that my domain was inspired by my dog, sanger, but it wasn't entirely (more on this later, too). but nonetheless, i love her to bits and pieces and you can bet there will be plenty sanger material to be posted soon.

4. my spirituality - this one is hard to explain. i grew up with religion, christianity to be precise, and the moment i turned 18 i turned my back on that mess and said goodbye forever. but there was always something inside of me that was searching...for my own inner spirituality and i've come to find that buddhism (insight meditation) matches my heart. i'm still pretty new to it, but i'll hopefully be adding some of my experience here.

5. life - ok, so this one seems pretty broad and a topic of most blogs out there. i plan to add sub categories as i go - job, love, family and friends.

that's it in a nutshell. the thesis of my blog if you will. in rough draft form, of course. feel free to comment, subscribe to my rss feed or just lurk.

time for bed - planning to get up early and run.

xoxo
